Patrick McFadden

Meet the youngest member of the Gusting55 team - Patrick Mcfadden!

We first met Patrick a few years back surfing at our local break in Garretstown. It isn’t too often you see someone his age ripping it up in 5-6ft conditions. At only 13 years of age Patrick is an exceptionally stylish surfer who is progressing at speed with every wave he rides. Patrick's attitude and willingness to excel at surfing is second to none and certainly a name to remember for the future.

1. Name & Age & Local break & Goofy or Regular?

Patrick McFadden

I’m 13

My local break is Garretstown and I’m goofy.

2. How did you first get into surfing?

I always loved the water as a kid I started surfing when I did a few camps around the age of 8 just for fun. I always loved the thrill of being on a wave (and still do) and started to take surfing seriously at the age of 10 and now can call the beach my second home.

3. What board do you generally ride?

It depends on the conditions but I mostly end up using 5’7, 23L all ocean board.

4. What is your competitive history?

I haven’t done a lot of competitions lately due to Covid but I did come third in the Irish junior surf competition in tramore and won the G’town surf competition. I’ll be heading off to compete in the all Ireland surf competition in Donegal soon.

5. What do you do with your free time when you’re not surfing?

I have a surfskate which I use to practice surf tricks when there’s no swell and bomb hills with my friends on the surfskate. I am quite sporty and do 7 different sports.

6. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

My dream would be to turn pro and travel the world to some of the best surf spots to go surfing when I’m older.
